Saturday, March 29, 2025

• 17:30 – 19:30 – Introductory lectures and preparation of participants
• 19:30 – Official start of the Messier Marathon

Sunday, March 30, 2025

• 00:30 – Midnight meal at the Observatory
• 05:30 – End of the Marathon
• 06:00 – Time for rest and sleep
• 13:00 – Group lunch and award ceremony
• 15:00 – Group photo and farewell

Marathon Details

Participants will gather starting at 18:30 on the grassy field east of the Tičan Observatory. The competition officially starts at 19:30 and continues until 05:30, or until a judge decides on a temporary pause or early termination due to weather conditions. Each team consists of two members: the main participant and an assistant, who reports findings to the judge.

What to Bring and How to Prepare

The competition will take place on a grassy field, which may be damp, leading to increased moisture penetration. We recommend bringing a PVC ground sheet to place your equipment and yourself on. Be sure to check wind forecasts in advance. If the Bura wind is expected, the main concern will not be mud but rather wind protection for yourself and your telescope!

Accommodation

Accommodation for all participants is provided in multi-bed dormitory rooms in the dormitory building in Višnjan. Those who wish to arrive a day early (March 28) for familiarization and training may also stay overnight in the dormitory.

Participation Fee

The participation fee is €20, covering:

Midnight meal and tea
Dormitory accommodation
Awards/certificates for winners and participants

The fee is payable upon arrival. Lunch will be paid separately at a local restaurant for €18. Judges are exempt from payment.
